31661 Sales Order Entry, Detail Entry Line Initialization

 

PURPOSE

 

This article describes how to start an order detail line. The types of lines that can be created include:

  1. Product Lines, including regular, pieces and lengths, packages/sets, services and warehouse transfers. Each of these lines have the LINE TYPE P, product. Regular products are those defined as SA, store average and SM, store markup products. Pieces and lengths products are those defined as L, lumber, G, gyprock, I, Insulation (where applicable) and SA, store average (when applicable) products. Package/sets are those defined as SA, store average (set and component) products. Services are those defined as SE, service type products. Warehouse transfer products can be all products included in transfer sale and credit type orders.
  2. Other Lines that can be entered, such as message, note and other special lines.
  3. General Ledger Code Lines used to affect G/L accounts. These have the LINE TYPE ?
  4. Description Lines that are used to add product or order descriptions. These have the LINE TYPE D, description.

 

PROCEDURE - LINE INITIALIZATION AND PRODUCT TYPE FIELDS

 

At the LINE (LINE NUMBER) field, press [Enter] to add a new detail line. Line numbers are based on increments of 10, and the program generates a new line number equal to the last line number used in the order plus 10. Line numbers are incremented in this manner so that lines can later be inserted anywhere within the body of the order. For example, if lines 10 and 20 exist in the order, you can at any point create a new line using line numbers 1 through 9 or 11 through 19. The new line number is displayed under the LINE column and the cursor advances to the LINE TYPE field. The line type defaults to "P" for product and the cursor advances to the PRODUCT field. If you want to change the line type, at the PRODUCT field press [F3] to return to the LINE TYPE field.

Enter any valid line type.

"P" to add product type line.

 

This line type enables you to enter a product code, quantity, price and to access various other options (including shipping options). After entering "P" the cursor advances to the PRODUCT field.

 

 

"D" to add description type line.

 

This line type enables you to enter a description detail line which can consist of multiple lines of text. After entering "D" the cursor advances to the DESCRIPTION entry edit field. See 31670 - SALES ORDER ENTRY, DETAIL ENTRY DESCRIPTION LINES.

 

 

"?" to add G/L code line.

 

This line type enables you to enter a General Ledger Code (where the line total will go in the General Ledger system) and an amount. After entering "?" the cursro advances to the GENERAL LEDGER CODE field. See 31669 - SALES ORDER ENTRY, DETAIL ENTRY G/L CODE LINES.
