IY4-05 I/Y MAINTENANCE
31008 Package Maintenance

PURPOSE

The package/set maintenance program enables you to add, modify and delete package type products and the component products of the package. Package type products are composed of a number of other products or components which are sold together as a package or set.

BEFORE ADDING A NEW PACKAGE

Before you can create a package product, each of the individual component products of the package and the package itself must be added to inventory. First, add each of the component products of the package to inventory if they do not already exist. It is a good idea to perform both cost and price maintenance for each component product as you add it to inventory. The package maintenance program uses this information to calculate the package price/cost factor.

  • See 31014 - PRODUCT AND INVENTORY MAINTENANCE, ADDING NEW PRODUCTS.

    • At Master Screen 2 make sure you enter "N" in the O3 PACKAGE? field for each component product.

Next add the package product to inventory. The package (or set) is a pseudo product that the system recognizes as being composed of two or more individual products called components. You add a package product to inventory in exactly the same manner as any other individual product, but at Master Screen 2 enter "Y" in the 03 PACKAGE? field. Doing so flags the item so that the system recognizes it as a package product with component products.

If the package is not to be a FACTOR 1 type package (see FIELDS - PACKAGE MASTER MAINTENANCE) you should set at least one price level for the package so that the system can calculate the price/cost factor when you perform package maintenance. Do not perform cost maintenance on the package. Costs are based on the package components.

Package/Set Maintenance is accessed from:

  • Inventory Product Maintenance menu.

PROCEDURE - PACKAGE MASTER MAINTENANCE

Select Package/Set Maintenance from the Inventory Products Maintenance menu. The following prompts display.

** STORE CODE:

FIELDS - PACKAGE MASTER MAINTENANCE

DESCRIPTION

Displays the package description as entered in product and inventory maintenance.

1. FACTOR 1 TYPE

A FACTOR 1 TYPE package has its price and cost calculated based on the sum of its component prices and costs. A FACTOR N TYPE package has its price set manually via the price maintenance program.

[Enter] to accept default value "N".

"N" for default FACTOR N TYPE package.

"Y" for FACTOR 1 TYPE package.

The package calculation program calculates the package factor using the formula FACTOR = TOTAL OF COMPONENT PRICES divided by PACKAGE PRICE. Based on the package's factor, the calculation sets the component prices using the formula COMPONENT PRICE = COMPONENT USUAL PRICE times FACTOR.

The discounted prices of the package components are used to determine the sales of the components. Also, when components are added, deleted or replaced during sale order entry they affect the price of the package product based on the factor.

2. INNOVIS PACKAGE?

IdealWare uses this flag to allow for the integration of Innovis "DesignCenter" packages during sale order entry.

[Enter] to accept default value "N".

"N" for not Innovis type package.

"Y" to flag package as Innovis type package.

3. INNOVIS GENERAL CODE

Enter Innovis general code to identify package.

This field is applicable only if the package is an Innovis type package.

PROCEDURE - SECTIONS MAINTENANCE

Sections are used to group similar components. All package type products must contain at least one section. If there are several dissimilar components (eg lumber, hardware, nuts/bolts, etc) create a section for each group of related components.

If you are adding a new package product, after completing field entry in the package master screen the program will prompt you to enter product sections information. Press [F1] to update the file and access sections maintenance.

If you are modifying an existing package product, select [F9] at the package master maintenance display, the lines maintenance display or options maintenance display.
