GS7-02 GENERAL SYSTEM GUIDE SECURITY SYSTEM
29144 Changing Passwords

PURPOSE

Verifiable user names and passwords control access to the system. This article explains how to add, delete and change user passwords.

The default system supervisor password is "SUPER". For good security, you should change the system supervisor's password immediately and thereafter on a periodic basis. Super user has unlimited access to programs and all data maintained by the system. Super user has complete access to the security profiles of all other users, including the ability to change their passwords and restrict their access to program areas.

It is imperative that only the person who will actually maintain the security of the system have super user access. Whenever there is any doubt about who has super user access, you should change the password immediately.

PROCEDURE

To access the Password Maintenance program:

  1. From the Company Access screen, logon using the password SUPER or the current super user password.
  2. At the Main System menu select Ideal Utilities from the Other Systems submenu.
  3. At the Ideal Utilities menu select Security/Password Maintenance.

CHANGING USER PASSWORDS

Typically, when users are added to the system they will be assigned a default password, typically it is the same as their user name.

See 29146 ADDING AND DELETING USERS.

Ideal software requires that the system supervisor change passwords. Users can not change their own passwords. It is very important that all new users select a password as soon as possible and notify the system supervisor so the new password can be implemented.

The procedure for changing user passwords is exactly the same as that described in the example above.
