GS4-01 GENERAL SYSTEM GUIDE INQUIRY
29114 General Inquiry

PURPOSE

Ideal applications provide a search mechanism for entering system codes into data fields. Such fields as Supplier Code, Customer Code, Payment Terms, Salesmen/Operator Code, Customer Group Code, etc. require the user to enter alpha/numeric codes accurately to insure that transaction data are updated to the correct files. The General Inquiry utility enables you to search for and identify the appropriate system codes and insert them into the data fields without typing, thus eliminating the possibility of keystroke errors.

PROCEDURE

At any field requiring the entry of a system code press [F5]. For example, at a data field requiring the entry of a Payment Terms code, pressing [F5] will bring up the following display:

To insert a code into the data field simply select the line number (displayed at the left margin of the screen display) of the appropriate code and then press [Enter]. If there is more than one page of codes press [Enter] to display the next page and [F3] to display the previous page. Press [F4] to exit the inquiry and return to the data entry screen from which you entered the inquiry.

  • The Customer, Supplier and Product Code inquiries have multiple search options and when you press [F5] from a field requiring such a code an inquiry option selection menu will appear. These options are discussed in their respective places in this manual.

  • Enter a partial code and then press [F5] to bypass the inquiry options selection menu and display the list of items beginning with the partial code you entered. This is particularly useful when doing customer and supplier code searches, since you can enter an alpha character, press [F5] and display the list from that point, eliminating much paging through extensive lists of codes. When you enter a partial alpha and/or numeric code in a product code field and press [F5] a list of products sorted by description is displayed.

  • In IdealWare, when you wish to do an inquiry from a field requiring a product code, you can also enter a partial product code and then press [F1] to bypass the inquiry option selection menu and display a list of products beginning with the partial product code you entered.
